Process for identification of and dealing with allegations of research misconduct:
All allegations of misconduct will be referred to the Editor-In-Chief, who will review the circumstances in consultation with the deputy editors. Initial fact-finding will usually include a request to all the involved parties to state their case, and explain the circumstances, in writing. In questions of research misconduct centering on methods or technical issues, the Editor-In-Chief may confidentially consult experts who are blinded to the identity of the individuals, or if the allegation is against an editor, an outside editor expert. The Editor-In-Chief and deputy editors will arrive at a conclusion as to whether there is enough evidence to lead a reasonable person to believe there is a possibility of misconduct. Their goal is not to determine if actual misconduct occurred, or the precise details of that misconduct.

When allegations concern authors, the peer review and publication process for the manuscript in question will be halted while the process above is carried out. The investigation described above will be completed even if the authors withdraw their paper, and the responses below will still be considered. In the case of allegations against reviewers or editors, they will be replaced in the review process while the matter is investigated.

Publishing schedule
Our journal operate under a continuous publication model (CP), which emphasises the online version as the authoritative record and ensures peer reviewed papers can be cited immediately. The CP model benefits from the online system, allowing the immediate publication of an article as soon as it is ready; that is, peer reviewed, approved by the Editorial Board, copyedited, typeset, and proofread. This way an approved article does not need to wait until a particular issue of the journal is completed, providing a better service to writers and readers by securing faster publishing to the scientific community. The journal will continue to gather articles for 3 issues per year, with the publishing deadlines on the last day of March, August, and December. However, the online journal’s website (https://bgss.eu) and the repositorium (https://zenodo.org/communities/surgery/) will be continuously fed throughout the year. When the deadline of an issue has passed, it is closed, published as an issue online plus paper edition and the next issue starts to be fed. This model permits faster publication of the articles that no longer need to wait for the issue to be completed, entirely following the innovation of the discoveries, and allowing the authors to see their work published as soon as possible.
