Abstract

Pseudomyxoma peritonei is defined as a clinical syndrome that results in the accumulation of mucinous ascites and peritoneal implants in the abdominal cavity. It is most often due to a ruptured neoplasm of the appendix. Surgical treatment includes cytoreductive surgery administered in specialized centers combined with intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
This treatment is applicable and gives a good therapeutic response, but only with еxact selection of patients and compliance with current recommendations in the treatment of pseudomyxoma peritonei.
